Personal Training Certification For NCCPT
I have been wanting to get into personal training for quite some time now but just haven’t had the funds. There are a number of personal training companies out there that I’ve researched -such as NASM, ACE, ISSA etc- and the cheapest course that I found was over $600. As luck would have it (I prefer to say it was a divine appointment) a new acquaintance of my wife told her about a special on Groupon for a personal trainer course that was only $148. (With the test being $299) This course is the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers. And to boot, someone bought it for me!
I didn’t realize it but when I was about to order the course, the Groupon special had already been expired for a few months. I had a momentary breakdown, thinking that I really missed out on a great opportunity but the folks at NCCPT honored it anyways. When I ordered the course book (the PDF version was free but the hard copy is not; still cheap however) they threw in a free shirt. What a deal! Overall, I’m quite impressed with the folks at NCCPT. I’ve had a number of phone conversations with them and they’re quite pleasant to work with. I find them to be very patient -I’m kind of a handful e. g. very thorough on the OCD side- and supportive.
Personal Training Certification Standards
As far as the course itself, it’s rather in depth and a little intimidating at first. (I was happy to learn that NCCPT is one of about a dozen companies whose certification is NCCA accredited; the highest standard in the industry) It’s superfluous to say that this is a rigorous certification, though it was cheap, it’s a quality program (and organization).
There’s a number of topics covered in this personal training certification, such as: anatomy, stretching, business, special populations etc. In addition to the course book, there’s a number of videos to watch that accompany each chapter. There’s also a study guide and sample test that you can order (for a small fee) to increase your odds of success.
The study guide was included in the Groupon special and my wonderful wife made flash cards from it for me. I’m only a few weeks away from taking the test and I hope/pray that I pass this thing. On a quick side note, just yesterday I found a NCCPT study group that is proving to be very useful for those of us who are freaking out about taking the test. Wish me luck folks, I need this to happen. Ciao.
Update: I just took the test today (7-22-13), and I passed! On a side note, the test was actually included in the Groupon package. What a deal woot woot!
